Travel to Australia with working holiday visa is the dream of many young people: one year down under, away from work, stress, and the monotony of the everyday life. The most important step is to take the decision to leave but once this obstacle has been overtaken, some paperwork must be addressed allowing us to translate into reality our dream. Below I will give a brief overview of what is needed and what is useful to obtain before leaving.

In order to remain in Australia for more than three months you have to obtain a visa known as working holiday visa (WHV) , a visa that allows the holder to remain in Australia for a year and to operate temporary jobs in order to maintain and pay travel expenses. The first step to leave is to apply for a visa. To get it you must complete a form on the website of the department of immigration and pay the fee of 200 € (270 AUD at the time of writing). Italian citizens (and many others) must apply for a Working holiday visa (subclass 417), registration takes about 20 minutes and in a couple of days a visa is usually granted. Everything takes place online, allowing timing unusual by Italian standards! In order to obtain a visa, you must have some basic requirements including: be aged between 18 and 30 years (inclusive) and having no dependent child Particular attention should be paid to health insurance. A bilateral agreement allows Italian citizens 6 months of coverage through the national system of health care in Australia. Then you should get a private insurance (there are many on-line at a good price. For example, this: http://www.worldtravelcenter.com/) covering the remaining 6 months. Citizens from other countries must check their own national system. Working holiday visa has some limitation too that you should keep in mind. Particularly:
since the date of issue you have time up to 12 months to enter Australia Since few years you can extend the first visa for a further twelve months, both staying in Australia or going back home to return at a later time. In this case, other requirements are mandatory including the main one:
having worked for at least three months in a specific job (work in farms, such as fishermen, loggers, miners, construction companies ...) during the stay with the first working holiday visa. ![]() Since for many people the Working Holiday Visa is a unique opportunity in life, I think it's important to arrive at the departure prepared for the big leap, without wishing to plan every detail (the beautiful of an adventure is improvisation!). In addition to the information I have given you, here you can find many more on the website of the Ministry of Australian immigration: http://www.immi.gov.au
