Istanbul
The Turkish capital is the meeting point between two different religious cultures like Islam and Christianity, but is also the hinge connecting Asia to Europe. The most significant historical riches are found in the ancient city of Constantinople: You can visit St. Sofia, pink building erected as Byzantine church, then used as a mosque and now as a museum. Just before it, is the symbol-building of the city, the Sultan Ahmet Mosque, better known as "Blue Mosque" for its magnificent mosaics of majolica. Not far away is the Topkapi Palace, overlooking the Bosporus, the imperial residence of the Ottoman government. The two continents have joined by the Galata Bridge, where you can stop to taste the delicious fresh seafood prepared on destroyed vessels and sold to passersby on the pier. After a big meal, ideal to digest is a walk in the bazaar of spices: the myriad colors and fragrances of the porch remind that you are on the door of the east.
