Adriatic sea at sunsetOn this occasion I spent a quiet "long weekend" in Croatia, going first to the caves of Postonja,  driving along the Adriatic coast until Senj, lively town with an old flavor and finally entering the interior villages to reach the Plitvice N.P., where thousands of waterfalls and lakes have created a corner of paradise on earth.

The visit to this park dates back to the spring of 2005, when finally, together with some friends, we decided to give ourselves a weekend break from our commitments and we started to visit Croatia by car. After a day devoted to visiting the caves of Postojna, already visited but always spectacular, we have directed toward the Croatian coast and stayed there (in Senj) before going inland and visit the park with its hundreds of waterfalls.
The entrance to the park is about 80 km from the coast, beyond the chain of Velebit, in the Lika region, including mountain of Mala Kapela and Lick Pljesivica. The Plitvicka Jezera NP, established in 1949, is a pearl of rare beauty and not for case is part of the UNESCO Natural Heritage since 1979. A succession of 16 lakes, fueled by endless springs and streams and connected to each other by lush waterfalls are the heart of the park. Plitvice N.P.The waters, over the millennia, have excavated the dolomite rock and created several caves. The mosses and algae also determine the formation of travertine that constitute barriers between a rock and another and act as real dams that grow by about 1 cm per year. The guests of the park are not only humans but strong is the presence of wild animals such as bears, wolves, lynx, wild cat, the marten and otter, roe deer, deer, wild boars and the rate.

Plitvice N.P.After an entire day up and down the paths and walkways that stretch over the lakes and waterfalls, exhausted for mileage covered and with the index finger painful for too many shots made with the camera, we granted ourselves the return to the car by boat. Driving along the road towards the exit we accompany the sun setting on the horizon painting with a thousand colors the water and plants around us. This was the last great greeting from gifted by Plitvice ...

During the return we have given ourselves a deserved break at sea, earning the fleeting supremacy to be the first visitors to take a bathe in the still icy waters of the Adriatic. After this regenerating stop, we are directed toward Slovenia returning to visit a place still in my heart and eyes since my last visit because of the beauty and serenity that transmits: Lake Bled, on the northern boundary of the Triglav N.P.. The bad weather and rain have tempered the pleasure of the visit but the romantic and heartfelt atmosphere have raised the sad mood for the imminent return.
