<<The decision, probably one of the most important of my life, is taken. Preparations are continuing apace. Books, Web sites and articles are gobbled up with voracity. On the day of departure approaches, the tension and excitement rises increasingly. I'm curious and at the same time scared for what will happen. I do not know yet what I will do, in a foreign country, among people who speak a language unknown to me or almost. In recent days I have spoken with a boy who preceded me in this adventure and returned just in Italy: I have been helped, given advice, informations, tips on how and what i can do in a city like Sydney . Yes, because this is my next goal, Sydney, the capital of New South Wales, on the east coast of Australia. That's all I know, apart from the fact that I have a one year visa to stay in this country, to travel and work occasionally to pay for the stay (the Australians have had a splendid idea of providing young visitors with "working holiday visa ").
In this section I like putting "live" my adventures and misadventures down under taking a sort of on-line travelogue. I hope to be able to update these pages frequently, but much will depend on how, and especially where I'll settle in Australia.>>
That was what I felt and wrote before leaving for Australia, in February 2007. Now I returned, the travelogue is rich and photographs are numerous and my tray full of experiences. It has been an unforgettable years, not always easy but still fun and exciting. By clicking the image below you can access the list of items for my ten months in Australia otherwise, to watch images of my trip press HERE.
"... Because once you leave the Australia, Australia ceases to exist. [...] Australia is largely empty and far, so far. Its population is not large and, consequently, his role in the world is peripheral. It has not coups d'etat been, it does not exhaust the stocks with a fishing insane, it does not finance despots, it does not produce cocaine in embarrassing quantities, it does not use its influence in arrogant and inappropriate way. It's a stable, peaceful and good country. It doesn't need to be kept under observation, and so we do not. But I tell you this: we only lost to us."
Down Under - Bill Bryson.
P.S. :
If someone is experiencing, has lived or intends to live, my own experience and is looking for a travel companion or just someone to talk to and exchange information on shelters, local vacancies and other items in the land of kangaroos (bad a simplification for a nation-continent huge and rich in biodiversity!), leave a post in the "Working holiday" section of forum and cross your fingers ... Perhaps someone will answer soon!
